MissionDeltaSphere, Inc. builds products and provides services that enable customers to capture objects and scenes from the real-world and to produce accurate, photo-realistic computer graphics models quickly, easily, and economically. BackgroundThe demand for 3D computer graphics models is great and growing rapidly. Video games and military simulations, home and commercial construction and renovation, web site product marketing and cultural expositions, crime scene and insurance investigations, surveying and industrial manufacturing, are just some of the applications using 3D computer graphics. 3D digital models entertain and instruct, sell products and sway opinions, and freeze moments in time. And in doing so, save time and money. DeltaSphere, Inc. specializes in 3D computer graphics. Collaborating with Dr. Lars Nyland in February 2000, then an associate professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, DeltaSphere began developing the industry's first high-speed, wide-area, moderately priced 3D laser scanner - and the only such product designed to build photo-realistic, color, 3D models. The first prototype system, the DeltaSphere™-3000 3D Scene Digitizer, was delivered in early 2001, and the product became a popular research instrument for universities, industry and the military. Beginning in 2002, DeltaSphere began to see significant interest from the law enforcement community in using 3D laser scanning for capturing crime, accident, and terrorist scenes and development began on software that would meet their special needs. The result, SceneVision™-3D, was first introduced in 2003. Since that time, DeltaSphere has continued parallel development on 3D laser scanning and software tools for viewing, measuring, model building, and analysis. The first complete solutions, the DeltaSphere-3000 and SceneVision-3D, have now been delivered into the first crime labs. Extensive development of SceneVision has continued with the addition of high-resolution, digital photo insets and blood spatter analysis tools. See the SceneVision-3D page for details on new functions. DeltaSphere, Inc. has also begun collaborating with other 3D scanner manufacturers, and a number of software developers, to be able to provide total solutions to a variety of customers. (See the DeltaSphere Partners page for additional information.) Application development continues in law enforcement, but has also expanded to the capturing of realistic museum exhibitions and building interiors for construction and renovation.
